What Does Available Chlorine Content Mean?
In order to compare chlorine compounds, a measure of available chlorine content is used. This compares oxidation power of gaseous chlorine to products containing chlorine.

Chlorine gas has 100% chlorine availability. In order to measure chlorine content in other chemicals, they are compared to chlorine gas. It is necessary to know the exact chlorine content in your pool's water as it is chlorine that is responsible for disinfecting pool water.
