BTU

BTU is a term used to refer to swimming pool heaters. It stands for British Thermal Unit, and describes the necessary amount of heat to raise one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.

Depending upon your heater and the size of your pool, you will need to determine the amount of BTU needed to warm the water. Conventional heaters operate on the BTU system. Smaller pools require a smaller BTU heater, while larger pools require larger BTU heaters. A heater with about 125,000 BTU will heat a pool approximately 450 square feet in size. A heater with 400,000 BTU will heat a pool up to 1000 square feet in size.
