Do It Yourself Bathroom Remodeling

Interestingly, bathroom remodeling projects are among the top ten causes of family fights. This is because the bathroom is the most frequented place in the house and when it stands picked apart, for weeks, months, sometimes even a year...well, you get the idea. This is due mostly to the lack of time-management skills, especially if the project is one of those do it yourself bathroom remodeling endeavors. Listen, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to be one of the grounds for separation or divorce! You and your loved ones can make this a really fun task and gain a brand new bathroom in the end.

Since time is often the number one reason for bathroom remodeling projects to stall or fall apart, why not do a little bathroom remodeling pre-planning and designate specific time to do it; let’s say a weekend or two. Bathroom remodeling is one of those projects that even with little bathroom remodeling estimate and budget can make a major difference in how the room looks, given that there is cooperation between all the parties involved in do it yourself project.

Here are some suggestions on how to make bathroom remodeling do it yourself easy and fun:

  • Install a new bathroom floor and / or paint you bathroom walls. It is probably a good idea to pick one or the other – keep in mind that you don’t want to make this too stressful and tearing up a floor and stripping paint can be just too much work. If your bathroom only needs one, focus on one and do a really good job. Painting is usually the simplest way to change to look and feel of a room – this is especially evident in a small space such as your bathroom. One thing to keep in mind when re-painting your bathroom is that its environment is often humid therefore you will need to use mildew-proof primers and moisture-protective coat.

(According to Discovery Channel’s Christopher Lowell top eight new color picks are medium yellow, persimmon orange, chartreuse, aqua blue, lilac, periwinkle, chocolate brown and pink.) Also, consider painting or wood-staining your bathroom vanities or your bathroom cabinets.

  • Introduce new bathroom accessories. Bathroom accessories, besides painting, really make a big difference; for example by introducing bathroom furniture such as a chair you can change the look of your bathroom space entirely. Get new bathroom rugs or create a mosaic of bathroom tiles on your bathroom wall (this is simple with the right adhesive – you can match bathroom tiles on your floor with a design on your wall). Install new bathroom light fixtures such as light bulb strip or a wall light on your bathroom wall.
  • If you feel you’re confident about doing so try adding a new bathroom faucet or showerhead. New bathroom hardware can take a bathroom from average to super stylish-looking. Consider finding bathroom fixtures that will match your accessories – for example rustic-looking finishes to match your wood-stained bathroom cabinets.
