EPA
The EPA, or the Environmental Protection Agency, is a federal body that helps to make decisions about pollution control in the United States.
Founded in 1970, the EPA was formed after a merger of several environmental committees and programs. It now has departments that deal with water, solid waste, and air.
The EPA helps to enforce the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. It also works with state and federal goverment associations in order to ensure that all environmental laws are fulfilled.
With its head office located in Washington DC, the EPA employs people all over the country. In fact, more than 18 000 people work for the EPA, with half of these employed as policy analysts, scientists, and engineers. Many other employees work as computer specialists, information managers, or financial analysts.
The Administrator heads the EPA and is usually appointed by the President of the United States.
