Kitchen Curtains

If you are a lucky kitchen owner you probably have large windows to let in the morning and evening sun. However, you don’t always want that sharp beam of sun penetrating your window.

Or maybe you are having an intimate dinner or family gathering. You probably don’t want your neighbors snooping in on you. That’s why having the perfect window treatments is essential for any decorating scheme.

It is very important that you do not lose sight of the total kitchen concept when choosing kitchen curtains. It would be a shame to throw away all of the hard work you have spent on cabinets and countertops, with a curtain eyesore.

Creating the perfect kitchen curtain scheme requires you to examine three different variables when choosing the right kitchen curtain. Texture, color and shape are all crucial variables to a great looking kitchen curtain.

Let’s take a closer look at the three variables:

Texture
If you have a modern kitchen design, it probably doesn’t make much sense to have rough country style curtains. So be sure that sleek and soft curtains accompany any kind of modern design. If you have opted for the French country kitchen style, you should look for inspiration in old world design. This means rougher textures and more durable materials.

Color
Choosing the right color for your curtains may seem like a no-brainer. Just match it with the color of the kitchen, right? Well, not always. You have to remember that during the day, the sun will shine through the curtains creating a soft hue in your kitchen. So, green curtains may look nice on some days, but having your kitchen bathed in soft green light could be kind of gross. So, when choosing a color, make sure that you do a window test on a sunny day to make sure that it gives you the look you want.

Shape
With curtains, there are no absolute answers when it comes to shape. Bigger is not always better and subtlety can be ruinous to your kitchen design. You must take a look at the size of your windows. If they are large, be sure to use a subtle kitchen curtain, or else the window will dominate your design, detracting from the rest of your hard work. On the flip side of that, small windows can look huge if they have the right curtains.
