Landscaping Design

Many people think that in order to have a great looking yard they have to hire some big shot landscape designer to do all the planning; however, this is not the case. These designers see hundred of yards a year (which gives them experience) but only YOU can truly know what landscape is the true expression of your home and family.

These simple principles of design are what you should consider when designing your landscape. Make a list of them, then with each structural decision, check to see how it fulfills or compliments each of the elements of design.

Elements

  • Color
  • Line
  • Form
  • Texture
  • Scale

Once you have done this, make sure that each structure also adheres to the principles of design.

    Landscaping Design Principles of Design

  • Unity
  • Balance
  • Transition
  • Proportion
  • Rhythm
  • Focalization
  • Repetition
  • Simplicity

You will see in the following sections that all of these rules exist in every facet of landscape design. The fun part is using these rules to make a landscape that is both personal and professional looking.
