Question: I have just been hired to a great painting company, and i was wondering if there are any tips you can give to a novice painter? I would really like to excell in the field. Maybe tricks of the trade?

Answer: My advice is to go above and beyond to get the job done. Don't cut corners just to save a little paint, as the end results will show it. Any painting contractor should be focused on details – the straight edge between the wall and molding, the two coats of paint on the walls. It is so refreshing to see a painter who cares about the job and also takes care of the homeowner's possessions. One thing that few painters actually do is clean the walls and ceiling before painting. Always paint the ceiling first and let it dry for 24 hours before painting the walls. If you explain to the customer why it might take a little longer, I'm sure they will appreciate your focus on details.
