Question: I know there could be a of difference depending on site access, materials etc but does anyone have any rough figures on cost to tear down an existing home? Home is approximately 2400 square feet and has partial basement. Just looking for rough figures.

Answer: I'm in the Chicago area and I've heard people talking about $75,000 to tear down a house. Obviously it varies based on the size and how much debris there is to haul away. You could try talking to your local building department, which will have rules about how you apply for the permit and when they grant demolition permits. Or, call a few excavation contractors and get a few ballpark estimates over the phone. If there is anything worth saving from the house, there are companies that hold demolition sales and will help you sell everything from the appliances to the doors.
