Answer: I always caulk before painting, although I have seen some contractors do it the other way around. Some prime, then caulk, although I caulk before priming. I like to get all the spaces filled in and looking even before painting. Always keep a slightly damp rag handy so you can wipe away excess caulk right away before it hardens. In terms of tinted caulk, the home improvement and paint stores sell caulk in several standard tints, such as bone and gray (in addition to clear and white). You typically just get the color that more closely matches your paint – or go with clear. Always use paintable caulk, also. I hope this helps.
