Title of Question: Drilling into stucco

Name:Todd  City: Minneapolis
Question: I am trying to put up some metal house number into stucco, and the masonry drill bit is making the hole too big (bit is the right size), any thoughts? With another whole the stucco started to crumble around the hole.

Answer: Stucco is a tricky material, as it will crack with too much pressure. Is there another place to hang the numbers or would a nail support them? I have had luck on interior plaster walls with putting thick masking tape in the area to be nailed, then putting in the nail. The tape holds the plaster together for those few seconds, then you peel it off. I don't know if this will work on exterior stucco, which typically is thicker, but it's worth a try. Or, check with a home improvement or hardware store for a more specialized tool. Good luck!
