Answer: Those are good questions to ask, as the term "handyman" can encompass a wide variety of home improvement projects. In general, handymen should know the basics of carpentry, painting, small plumbing and electrical projects, and general "fixes" (such as repairing loose boards on your front steps). As you call each person or business, ask for details on what services they provide. Is the handyman a licensed plumber or electrician, for example. (Some towns require licensing for certain work). Make sure the person has done your type of work before. And, always check references by looking at their work yourself.
