Q&A | Floors and Stairs : Installing carpet butting up to wood floor

Title of Question: Installing carpet butting up to wood floor

Name:KK  City: Las Vegas
Question: How do I install carpet in an existing area that is in the middle of a hardwood floor? Object is for a printed carpet that will look like an area rug under the table, but is actually part of the floor. Thanks

Answer: This is a tricky home improvement project because the carpeting is going to be taller than the wood floor. You'd need to put down a metal or wood threshold type strip around each side to secure it to the floor. Have you considered finding an area rug that could serve the same purpose? This would be much easier, as the edges are already finished off and you could always move it to another room later if you redecorate or move.
