Answer: This is a great time to buy a house, but you have to take your time and do some research. There are many homes priced too high and I think prices are going to come down more. I would start now, but try not to buy until the spring, when prices might be lower. In most markets there is a lot of inventory, so you should be able to negotiate a good price. If you're handy, look for a house that needs a little home improvement – quick stuff like decorating, painting, etc. You'll get a better deal that way. Look for a good real estate agent who knows the market, will take time with you and won't rush you into buying. Before you shop, however, get your financing in order. Talk to a bank about how much you can afford and clear up any credit issues. Also shop around for the best rate on a mortgage and look for first time buyers financing programs. Good luck!
