Q&A | Hot Tubs : Jacuzzi Bath Tub Question

Title of Question: Jacuzzi Bath Tub Question

Name:Jenny  City: Shorewood
Question: I have recently purchased a house with a jacuzzi bathtub. I usually take a bath about twice a week. Sometimes, the water will come out with a brown tint from the tub faucet. I do not use the jets because I am pregnant, and they are a little uncomfortable. Anyway, I was wondering if there is some sort of maintenence that I should be doing that I am not that may cause the brown tinted water? Are there filters...or some sort of chemicals I should be using that I am unaware of? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks

Answer: My guess if your house is over 25 years old it has galvanized pipes which have rust in them. You need to run the water for 20 seconds to let that clear out. This also inicates that you will need to have the house re-plumbed with copper piping. The galvanized pipes will eventually leak which could cause wall damage.
