Kenmore water softener explodes!

| Question: I heard a large boom in the basement, when I went down I found the water softener ( a delux model about 4 yrs old) with water pouring out of it and all over the floor! I put it in bypass but it was leaking out of the o-rings! POO!!! I just used a washing machine hose and by-pass it the old fashioned way...Any thoughts on cause and/or repair method? Its full of water still, well up to the drain hose it has...I haven't had too great of luck with sears appliances so I've just been letting it sit.
