Answer: Hi Tom! Your first step is to get as much of the stain as possible up from the carpet. Whatever you do, avoid rubbing it. This will just set the stain in. Instead, you'll want to blot it using a clean towel. Blot from the outside in to prevent the stain from spreading. Once you've got as much of the surface stain removed as possible, apply some club soda to the spot and continue to blot, starting at the outside of the stain and working in. If the stain is still visible, make a mixture of around a tablespoon of liquid dish soap with a couple cups of warm water. Apply the mixture to the stain and continue to blot. Be sure to rinse thoroughly between applications of the dish soap mixture. If the stain is still apparent, you can try 1/4 cup white vinegar mixed with one cup of water, using the same blotting and rinsing method. Hope this works for you!

Answer: The key to removing stains from carpeting is to get to it as quickly as possible. Remove by blotting the area with a clean rag soaked with soda water or a mild dish detergent. It's important to blot so it doesn't move the stain around to other fibers. If it looks like the stain has already penetrated, put a rag with soda water on top of the stain, put a few books on top and let it sit overnight. Sometimes this will lift out the stain. Good luck. Stains can be a tricky home improvement dilemma.
