Answer: Hi Dan! You can definitely paint ceramic tile. The only caveat is that you shouldn't paint it in an area that's frequently going to get wet. It's not such a great idea in the bathroom, for example. The first step is to make sure that you get the tile as clean as possible so that the paint will adhere well. Clean it thoroughly using an abrasive cleaner like Comet. Because you are painting the tile anyway, scratching the tile's surface is not a big concern, and it can actually help the paint to stick. Make sure that you do not neglect cleaning the grout. Next, paint the tile with an oil-based paint, which will adhere better to the tile than water-based paint. After it has dried for several days, you're ready to do a couple of coats with a urethane sealer. This step is what makes the painted tile tough and resistant to wear. Good luck with your project!
