The house was built in 1970 but I have no clue when the siding was installed or manufacturer, etc. Where do I begin to look for a replacement 'close' to matching the original color? |

| Answer: Hi Sandi! Tracking down old siding can be a challenge, but I've got a few ideas for you that might help. First of all, do you know or could you find out who built your house? The builders might be able to tell you what type of siding they used. You could even take a sample to their office, which could help them to identify it. If that fails, your second option is to take a piece of the siding to your local home improvement stores or siding dealers. You'll be able to compare your siding to the ones they sell to see if you can find a match. Remember to check the width of the siding pieces as well as the color to find the best match. Also, take a look at how shiny your old piece of siding is, and try to match it with the new pieces. A third option will cost you a little bit more money, but it is definitely the least work. Do a web search for "match old vinyl siding." You'll find some companies that will identify your old siding and track down a match for a fee. You'll just need to mail them a piece of your old siding, and they will do the rest. Good luck! |
