| Answer: Hi Joyce! To remove the stain, you should try a poultice. A poultice is a damp paste or liquid that removes stains by drawing them to the surface of the stone and out into the poultice as it dries. To make a poultice, you'll need a clay powder, and you might need to add some chemicals to it to get rid of your stain. First, though, try removing the stain using only the poultice material. You could use clays such as attapulgite or kaolin, or diatomaceous earth. Wet the area of the stain on your marble using distilled water, and add water to your poultice mixture to make a paste. Apply the paste and cover it with some plastic wrap. Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap so that the poultice can dry out. Wait until the poultice has dried out completely, and remove it from the marble. If the poultice works, it should draw the stain onto itself and away from your marble. You might want to add a chemical agent to the poultice if it does not work the first time. Methylene chloride removes oil and dye, so it sounds as if it would be ideal for your candle stain. Make sure you follow safety precautions when you use this chemical. It's pretty nasty stuff. |
