Q&A | DIY : Sunroom color and flooring

Title of Question: Sunroom color and flooring

Name:Carol  City: Cedartown, GA
Question: We have an existing sunroom that goes out to a deck and swimming pool. Our back door guests enter directly into the sunroom. I want a great new color the the one wall and ceiling. I also need a floor that is easily cleaned but not slippery when walked on with wet feet. Any suggestions?

Answer: In terms of the paint color, much of that will depend on your furnishings. There are a lot of vibrant yellows out there that can range from bright yellow to shades of orange. Blues also are popular, from sky blues to gray blues. You could paint the ceiling a few shaded lighter than the walls instead of going with a traditional white. In terms of the flooring, there are many ceramic tiles that are made with a slight texture to them to minimize slipping. Tile is very easy to clean and comes in many patterns. Check out a local flooring contractor to see samples.

Answer: Hi Carol! I agree with Allison that yellow or blue could be lovely, but if you are only going to paint one wall and the ceiling, you might want to go for some drama. Every year, the Pantone Color Institute picks a color of the year, and 2007's choice is called "Chili Pepper." It is described as "a deep, spicy red." Another hot color (quite literally,) is wasabi, a vibrant, springy green. If you do paint a wall one of these dramatic hues, I'd definitely take Allison's advice and paint the ceiling a lighter color. Flooring-wise, I think that a textured ceramic is a great idea, or you might even check out rubber floor tiles, which are often used for commercial spaces. They can add a distinctive modern look to your home. Or you could always choose a floor that you are wild about and put down an attractive, durable, and non-skid rug through the major trafficway from the pool. Hope this helps!
