Title of Question: Vinyl Siding Noises

Name: Jim    City: Edmonton

Question: Problem: I have a 1700 square foot house with vinyl siding that was improperly installed in 1990. The nails hold the inner siding panels to the house tightly so that the panels do not move from side to side at all. As a result, many noises are heard inside the house, especially during the winter, because of expansion and contraction. Solution: One solution may be to loosen the tight nails to give the panels room to expand and contract. Hopefully, this effort would lessen the frequency of noises heard inside the house, but I'm not sure about this outcome. I understand that noise "still" may occur even when all nails have a slight gap. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
