Q&A | Siding : Vinyl siding trim & Corners

Title of Question: Vinyl siding trim & Corners

Name:LB  City: Morrison, CO
Question: I'm trying to rerplace my deck and install new entry doors. My siding has trim along the edges and bottom as well as the siding edges are tucked into inside and outside corners. I get how to remove the siding itself but don't know how to remove the trim and inside and outside corners. I don't see any screws or any way to get the trim off.

Answer: Hi LB! Your first step will actually be to remove the siding. The siding has some flexibility to it, so you will be able to flex it gently to ease it out of the J-channel by your windows and doors and the inside and outside corner trims. You'll start removing your siding with your siding removing tool at the corners, then you'll be working your way toward the middle. Once you have removed the necessary pieces of siding, it should become pretty clear how to remove the corner posts and the J-channels. There should be a visible nailing strip, just like on the regular siding pieces. Remove the nails, and you'll be good to go. When you're reinstalling the corner trim, be sure to pound in your nails at the top of each nailing hole so that the corner trim will hang well and its weight will be evenly distributed among all of the nails.
