Answer: While contractor fees can vary widely, they often are around 20 to 30 percent on top of the labor and materials costs. This is for a general contractor who is overseeing all the work, ordering materials, hiring and supervising workers, etc. It basically covers their costs of running a business (insurance, payroll, equipment, etc.) and their profit. Most contractors will itemize this out for you if needed. Others charge a flat hourly rate, but should be willing to give you an estimate of how many hours they think it will take. Of course, always get a written contract so all the details are clear and spelled out for you. Good luck!
