Answer: Hi Michelle, In all likelihood, the insects are either ants or termites. In the spring, both ants and termites will swarm, looking for new places to build their colonies. To figure out whether they are ants or termites, look at them up close. Termites have straight abdomens, straight antennae, and wings of equal length. Ants have abdomens that taper where they meet the thorax, bent antennae, and back and front wings that are unequal in length. It sounds as though they are probably termites because they are attracted to the light of the window. They are not going to hurt you or your home, and they have pretty short lifespans. However, if you determine that they are termites, you need to contact a pest control expert. With that many swarmers inside your home, odds are good that there is a colony under your home or somewhere on your home's exterior. Have you been opening your windows? If so, there's a chance that the insects have just found their way in or have blown in from your yard.
