Question: Is it cheaper to buy a new house or old one? I've shopped around and they all seem expensive.

Answer: That's a tricky question because it depends on your tastes and lifestyle. Old houses typically have more charm, but they can require more upkeep, particularly if they have been neglected. I think that "good" old houses were built better than today's newer houses, however, and were built to last. If you prefer not to worry about as much maintenance, then a newer house is a better bet. They also have larger rooms and more open floor plans. Regardless the age, look for a house with good "bones," as you can always change the cosmetic things later. You should see housing prices coming down, particularly if there is a high supply in your area. Don't hesitate to offer what you think it's worth (or less), as many houses still are overpriced. And, always get a home inspection.
