Answer: Hi Frieda! As a cat owner myself, I know what a problem the shedding can be. I've heard that cats shed their fur when days get longer and there is more sunlight. It's a biological response designed to cool them down in hot weather, but it's not so useful in an air-conditioned house. The best strategy for dealing with this spring onslaught of fur is to attack it at its source--your cats. Brush them a couple times every day. The loose fur will attach itself to their brush rather than your couch, and you'll get a little bonding time with each cat every day. I've got a cat brush that is especially good for helping with shedding. It's made of rubber, with short, stumpy teeth. It really seems to lift the fur off of my cat. Any type of brush should help dramatically, though.
