Answer: That's a good question and one that some people fail to ask before buying a home. The place to start is with your local municipality, as they are in charge of permits and governance over the building process. Also find out what other towns the builder or contractor has worked in and find out if there have been any complaints. While many businesses get a complaint or two, a pattern of problems is a big red flag. You also can try talking to neighbors in the areas where the contractor is building and checking out your courthouse to see if any lawsuits have been filed. Also, ask the contractor this question. A reputable builder should be happy to share references and information about their track record.
