Q&A | Siding : clean mildew on siding but not harm deck

Title of Question: clean mildew on siding but not harm deck

Name:Paul  City: Raleigh
Question: I cleaned and restained my deck last year. This year, I am trying to paint my house. I realize I should have cleaned the house when I did the deck (hindsight). So how can I clean the mildew off my siding without messing up my nicely stained deck?

Answer: This is a tricky home improvement project because it is all about where two materials meet. Your best bet is to lay several heavy plastic tarps down over the deck, securing each layer with heavy tape. Then clean the siding slowly and with a mild hose to avoid too much water flowing on the plastic. This will take longer, but can protect your newly stained deck.
