Answer: Hello Roderick. While it used to be easy, in most regions, to build a house addition for under $100 per square foot, construction costs have been increasing. Actually, in 2006, five cities in Florida had the largest construction cost increases in the country. I'd assume this would carry into the rural areas, as well. The good news is that even with a dramatic increase, the costs were still low compared to other major US cities. So you should be able to find someone to build for around $100 per square foot, but of course, this not only depends on the cost of the wood (which has been rising), but also largely on your bathroom. Bathrooms basically can be as affordable or as costly as you wish. In general, it costs around $1000 per bathroom fixture (tub, sink, toilet). But the fixtures, themselves, can vary a great deal in price. Bath tubs, alone, can run anywhere between $100 to $1000, and in the multiple thousands for Jacuzzi tubs. Anyway, bottom line: you 'should' be able to find a builder for around $100 per square foot, but being in a rural place, there is often the simple problem of finding someone who will show up for the job. My mother, I know, has this problem, with builders, plumbers, electricians, etc. Good luck!
