Answer: Hi Ella, The first step toward repairing your brick or stonework is to remove the old, cracked mortar. Use a chisel to chip away the old mortar. Make sure that you wear safety glasses for this step, because the mortar might fly up in the air as it is chipped away. Next, mix up some new mortar and use a trowel to smooth it into the space between the stones or bricks. It is important that there is a smooth join between the old and new mortar so that the weather can't get in and weaken the repaired mortar. I hope your repair goes well!
