Title of Question: franchise fee or satellite dish tax

Name: Robert    City: Livingston, MT

Question: I live in a spasly populated but large in land area county, in the Rcky Mountains. It would bevery nice if we had a public access channel to broadcast county commission meetings sports events and many other local activities and events to folks in the rural areas of our county. I live in the town where the county seat is located and where the population is dense enough to make cable cost affective. In the rest of the county you must have a satellite service. Our city franchise agreement calls for the provider to supply a cable connection for broadcasting from public buildings. the population of the city about 8,000 and the county are about equal. The cable does this due to a Federal mandate. There is no such rule for satellite companies. I have heard that some counties in the USA have passed "dish tax" to provide for funding for the cost of broadcasting public access via satellite. Can anyone give me an example of an area where this is done? ooreroom@aol.com
