Answer: Hello, It does look as though you'll need a New Mexico handyman's license. It costs $15, and you'll have to fill out a form that tells about the type of work you plan on doing. The state stipulates certain rules for handymen. For example, handymen are not allowed to make more than $7,200 per year. If they make more than that, they must get a contractor's license instead, which comes with its own set of rules and regulations. Also, there are only certain types of repairs that handymen are allowed to do. Handymen can repair broken windows, doors, cabinets, fences, and walls, but they cannot do any plumbing, electrical wiring, or gas fitting. The form gives complete details about the types of work handymen can and can't do. You can find the form online, or you can contact the New Mexico state government's construction industries division. Every year once you get your license, the state government will mail you a form for renewal.
