Title of Question: hot tub circ pump reading 120 volts through ground wire

Question: I was getting a gfci trip instantly and then I disconnected the 120 v circ pump and it worked fine. I then put my multimeter on the ground wire from the circ pump and found 120 v. Could the problem be the wiring in the pump or the pump itself?
