Answer: Hi! It depends on whether your hot tub is made of wood or another material. If it is made of wood, I definitely would not recommend leaving it empty over the summer. As the wood dries out, it shrinks, and you are very likely to have leaks when you refill it later. There is a chance that the wood will reabsorb enough water to become water-tight again, but it is a much better idea to just leave it filled with water year-round. If it is made of another material, leaving it empty over the summer shouldn't be as big of a problem. However, once the tub is emptied of water, it is very easy for bacteria to grow inside the fittings, pipes, and pumps of your hot tub. When you are ready to refill it, make sure that you give it a good shock with chlorine, clean the filter well, drain, and then refill it again, making sure that the levels of your chemicals are correct.
