| Question: figiure square feet of gable roof |
Post Your Answer To The Question Above:
| Answer: Hi Jack! Gable roofs are basically two identical rectangles that meet at one of their long edges. To figure the square footage of a gable roof, you'll need two measurements. The first one is the length of your house. This one will be easy to find. You can measure along the bottom of the house, or you can refer to a blueprint of your house for the measurement. No matter which method you choose, keep in mind that the roof probably sticks out a few inches beyond the house on either side. This measurement is the long side of the rectangles. Next, you will need the measurement of the shorter sides. If this measurement is not on the blueprint of your house, or you do not have the blueprint, you will need to measure it, which will require getting up on a ladder and measuring. Keep in mind that you are measuring the slanting line of the roof, from the bottom edge to the top where the two sides meet. Once you have your two measurements, you will multiply them together. This gives you the area of one of the rectangles. Multiply by two gives you the total square footage of your roof. For example, if your two measurements are 30 feet and 25 feet, your total square footage will be 30 times 25 times 2, or 1500 sq. feet. |
