Question: We need to have our front yard sodded and add some bushes. The area is about 40 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Any ideas on cost?

Answer: While the landscaping cost will vary based on labor rates in your area, here are some guidelines. Sod typically is around $2 per square foot, so if you have 800 square feet, you're looking at about $1,600. Of course, some of that area (if I'm reading the question correctly) will have flowerbeds or areas for shrubs, so you would subtract that from the sod costs. When pricing out shrubs, it depends on how many you do and what types. Evergreen shrubs such as boxwood are great foundation plants and they are about half the cost of yews (which also are nice and can take more shade). You could spend $75 to $125 for each shrub (that includes having them planted) or go the DIY route and have the landscapers carve out the beds and then you add shrubs from a local nursery.
