| Question: I would like to block the noise and sight of the neighbors' air conditioner. It is about 30 ft from our deck and is very detrimental to conversation. I would like to use landscaping since we're not allowed to use fencing. |
Post Your Answer To The Question Above:
| Answer: Could you build a retaining wall to get around the fence issue and then plant trees? Otherwise, evergreens are your best bet. Depending on how much width and height you can handle, the Norway spruce is a fast growing (2-3 feet a year). It will get to 30 to 50 feet eventually, but you can trim it to keep it under control. Another option is the "cedar green giant", which is supposed to grow 3 to 5 feet a year. Again, it can get very tall, so it depends on your needs. For a shorter evergreen, try the techny arborvitae, which has a more graceful and wide shape than the typical cone shaped ones. It only get to about 12 feet and grows about 6 to 12 inches each year. It also can handle some shade, unlike the other two. |
