Q&A | Household Emergencies : moisture on drywall?

Title of Question: moisture on drywall?

Name:Rob  City: Vancouver
Question: The lower part of the drywall around my furnace closet in the basement is damp. We broke the concrete and determined it's not from ground water. Where's it from? What to do?

Answer: Have you done any remodeling in the area lately that would involve water? Any problem with wall seepage after a storm? Is there a toilet nearby or pipes in the wall or a water heater that could be leaking? It's tough to say what it is, but you obviously have to find the water source first. I would take out all the affected drywall and get rid of it, as it will turn moldy if it hasn't already. Also check the rest of the room to see if you find it anywhere else. Good luck!
