Title of Question: new cedar fence

Question: just completed and looks so beautiful. do i need to seal it? I think i would like it to age naturally and certainly don'[t want to have to 'refinish' every few years (like the decks). does it need to be sealed

Answer: Hi! If you are happy with the way cedar looks as it ages, I would definitely recommend that you forget about sealing it. Sealing it will keep it the same color it was when it was installed, but the alternative as it ages, a nice silvery color, is great, too. Cedar is naturally resistant to weather and insects, so sealing is not going to offer you a considerably longer lifespan on the fence. The main reason to seal it would be for cosmetic reasons. If you do decide to seal it, make sure that it is bone dry when you apply the sealant.

Answer: Our new cedar fencing looks wonderful and we love the color of the wood, so we will stain to keep it that color as long as we can. Thanks, Annie!
