Answer: Hi Donna! This is definitely a project that you can tackles yourself. It is going to take some serious work, though, to get your siding ready for paint. Prepping for painting is such an important part of your painting job, though, that you will want to make sure that you do it right. First of all, you'll want to wash the siding very well. Use soap, water, and a sponge, and really scrub the siding to get it clean. You might end up taking off more paint, but that is not a problem. You'll be providing the best possible adhesion surface for your primer and finish paint. Make sure that you rinse the siding very thoroughly, then give it a few days to dry. Next, you'll want to apply a primer. Look for an oil-based product. After the primer is dry, you will be ready to paint. Choose a high-quality acrylic latex exterior paint. Soon it will be time to admire your beautiful new paint job.
