| Answer: Most towns do require a permit for a deck, but the requirements will vary by town. I would stop by your village building department and ask. Or, if you're using a contractor to build it, he or she should know and they should be taking out the permit so that they are responsible for building it to your town's standards. In terms of staying away from the property line, most towns have what's called a "side yard setback" you have to adhere to. It usually is two to five feet from the property line, but, again, the building department can provide details. |
