| Answer: Wallpaper is not hard to remove, but it can be tedious. The trick is to get the right solution (I use DIF). You dilute it with water (follow instructions on bottle), then use a rag to mop it on a section of the wall. Give it a few minutes to soak in, but not too long, as it will dry out and you'll have to do it over again. Put some towels along the floor, as it does drip. Then use a painting scraper to peel it off. The other trick is getting the backing of the paper off. This is a fine, feathery type of off white paper. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get both the paper and backing off. It might take you a day to do a room or a painting contractor will charge $400 or so to remove wallpaper. Good luck! |
| Answer: Hi Sharon! You might want to try first to see if your wallpaper is the strippable kind. Try peeling up an edge without using any chemical removers or water. If you are lucky, you'll be able to peel the paper right off the wall. In addition to the chemical remover that Allison recommends, you could also try using a steamer. Wallpaper steamers can be rented from most hardware stores. Your first step is to score the paper's surface with a scoring tool. Next, you'll slowly run the steamer over the surface of the wall, peeling up the wallpaper as you go. Wallpaper steamers can help if you find you have got really stubborn wallpaper glue. |
