Answer: You might not like the answer to this question. While it seems straight forward to replace a bathtub, it is not. The problem is that the tub is connected to the wall and wall tile and the floor and floor tile. It is difficult to get a tub out without destroying other products around it, including the toilet. The contractor has to break apart the tub and take it out in pieces. This often leads to redoing most of the bathroom. I would suggest talking to a few contractors and asking how they approach this. The cost for a new tub ($600 to $1,200 or so) is nominal. The labor might be $500 to $1,000. But, you often damage all the surrounding parts and that's when it gets into thousands of dollars. Another solution is to have the tub reglazed. This costs about $400. I have done it on several tubs and it turned out great. Hope this helps!
