Question: I'm about to paint a room a light celery and am wondering what colors I should buy in a rug. Multi color or would a celery rug be too boring?
Post Your Answer To The Question Above:
Answer: It's really personal preference, but I like a little contrast. You could buy a rug with celery and cranberry, for example, just to add a little bold color to the room. If you only want a little contrast, look for a pattern that only brings in the darker color with a small border. It also depends on your furniture. If you have some dark furniture or artwork with different colors you can get away with a more monochromatic color scheme for the walls and floor.
Answer: Hi Cindi! As Allison says, a lot of your color choice is going to depend on the other components of your room. Interior designers rely on something called the 60-30-10 formula to create pleasing color schemes. Basically, this formula says that rooms should have one main color, which accounts for around 60% of the room's walls and furnishings, one main accent color that represents another 30% of the room's space, and a final accent color, used for a few accessories, like knick-knacks and throw pillows, that is 10% of the color in the room. In your room, if you do opt for a celery-hued rug, you'll want to be sure that the other furniture is providing a contrast. If you want a rug of a different color, you can think about complementary and analogous colors. Complementary colors are opposite celery on the color wheel, so they'll include reddish purples. Analogous colors are beside celery on the color wheel. They include greens and yellows. Complementary colors tend to create drama in a room, while analogous colors can look more soothing. Either of these options might be a great choice, depending on how you are going to use the room and on your own personal preferences.
