| Answer: You would be amazed at all the shade loving plants out there. Among my favorites perennials are Japanese painted ferns, sweet woodruff (which is fragrant), cora bells, lamium (fast growing ground cover with white or pink flowers) and hellaborus. All of those can take almost full shade, but then there are many that just need three to four hours of sun. Hydrangea is a good flowering shrub that just needs partial shade (although it will flower better with more sun). I would check out a local nursery or talk with a landscaping contractor. Another good source is www.whiteflowerfarm.com. Good luck! |
| Answer: Hi Christy! If you are looking to cover a large amount of space, you should consider vinca minor. It is a vine with small, glossy leaves and deep purple flowers. It is super hardy, and it spreads well. Another one of my favorites is bleeding heart. Every spring, it sends up stalks of pink, heart-shaped flowers. If you are looking for bigger plants, hydrangeas are a great option, as Allison says. I also love rhododendrons and azaleas. Their blossoms are big and dramatic, and you can find them in just about any color you can imagine. Mountain laurel is another great shrub option. Hope this helps! |
