Q&A | Plumbing : shower drain too high

Title of Question: shower drain too high

Name:darby  City: toronto
Question: Hi bought a house with a new single person tile shower on floor including tile floored - the drain is way to high and the water does not drain - you need a sponge to get it all out- is there a solution to this besides tearing up the whole floor?

Answer: I just renovated my home and have the same problem. The tile man "with 50 years experience" left me with a custom built 4' x 6' tile shower that has the drain higher than the surrounding tile. I do not know if there is some clear compound that can be used to build up the low areas. My guess is that I am going to thinset over the existing floor and add new tile with the proper slope. I had rather not tear out the custom pan that is already there.
