Answer: This is becoming a huge home improvement issue for many people. One concern with replacing a tub with a shower is that you are changing the layout of the bathroom, which can get costly. Even if you keep the shower in the same place and don't have to move plumbing lines, you have to build a shower stall, add a drain, etc. Before taking that step, check out the link below on the tub designs with doors that allow you to get in and out more easily. If you're set on a shower, the main thing is to make sure there is no threshold at the opening and that the floor slopes downward and moves water away from the door opening and toward the drain. Also realize that it is almost impossible to remove a tub without ruining the floor and wall tile and possibly having to take out the vanity and toilet. It's just a messy job.
