| Question: The vinly siding on one side of my house has been replaced three times and continues to melt. This is over a two year period and now it is melting on the other side of my house. I see other houses in my development with the same problem It only seems to appear no higher than 3 foot from the ground level and also under a window. The builder says it is the sun reflecting off another homes window. How do they fix the problem from happening again ? |
Post Your Answer To The Question Above:
| Answer: Hi Dan! I'm sorry to hear about your melting siding. Most vinyl siding is tested to withstand heat up to around 160 degrees. If it isn't getting that hot on your siding (and I have a feeling it probably is not) you and your neighbors might have a bad batch. Have you tried to (very carefully) feel the siding during the heat of the day? Does it seem as if it could be over 150 degrees? I'd find out from the builder what brand of siding was used, and contact the company about your problems directly. It might make your argument more convincing if you could document how many houses in the neighborhood are suffering from the same problem. To minimize the problems that you are having now, I'd try to find out which neighbors' windows are causing the melting problems on your siding. If you could convince them to install screens, maybe by offering to pay for them yourself, or by arranging a trade if your windows are making their siding melt, too, that could help to minimize the problem. The screens will help to weaken the reflection from the glass of the windows, which should in turn cool down your siding. Good luck! |
