Q&A | Walls : wallpaper removal problem

Title of Question: wallpaper removal problem

Name:Carolyn  City: Chester
Question: I have been trying to remove wallpaper, the front comes off but the backing remained. I have tried hot water, 2 kinds of chemical wallpaper stripper & a wallpaper steamer but the glue is still holding & it is causing the sheetrock to come off. Is there something else I can do to remove the backing. I would like to paint the walls. Thanks

Answer: Are you using a product like DIF and, if so, are you really soaking the wall with it and then trying to take off the paper right away? Some people don't put enough on or they let it dry and then it doesn't work. Other than that, I'd suggest going to a local paint store and asking if they have any special products to try. Good luck. I know this is a frustrating home improvement project, as I've done it several times!

Answer: Try only HOT water and a new metal scraper. It worked for me!
