Question: what troubleshooting can I do for hot water not working?

Answer: There could be several reasons for hot water not working. Is it just in one area of the house or everywhere? If it is everywhere you should take a look at the water heater. Is the pilot light on? Has anyone changed the setting on the thermostat? You also could have sediment at the bottom of your water heater collection tray. When you turn a faucet for hot water (and run to where the water heater is) do you see the burner working and hear it trying to heat the water? When in doubt, call a plumbing contractor. Good luck.
